Dear Reader,

Welcome to our March Newsletter!

Even though we still have to wait to be able to meet at real events, finally the nice weather is here to help boost our mood. I'm also delighted to welcome two new members: Q&L Industrial Services and Smarthead. Welcome to our community and we are looking forward to future collaboration!

It's been three months since the new UK-EU trade deal came into force and the first official post-Brexit UK Trade Data was released by the UK Office for National Statistics. It showed a significant slump in UK exports of goods to the EU, particularly compared to non-EU trade. The British Chambers of Commerce in the UK commented that "although the postponement of import checks will help avoid exacerbating the current disruption, there must be a greater focus on long-term solutions to improving the flow of UK-EU trade." Clearly Covid travel restrictions have also been a factor, but if you've been affected by the reduced number of goods arriving from the UK, I'd be interested to hear your feedback.

This year, the UK is uniting the world in the fight against Climate Change. Together with the British Embassy we launched the Race to zero campaign this month where President Caputova and Nigel Topping the UK's Climate Action Champion opened our conference. You can watch the recorded sessions on the Chamber's youtube channel. More and more companies are adopting science-based approaches in their strategies and integrating climate risk into their disclosure. Our Chamber is committed to keeping the momentum going and helping as many companies as possible to achieve a profitable and carbon neutral recovery after this devastating pandemic. We have received so much positive feedback on the conference, and we were even contacted by the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce from the UK, as they are looking at replicating our successful event. It would be great for us to build links with their members, many of whom are in the automotive industry. See more information below.

Finally, I don't need to tell you that business is about relationships or that collaboration is key. And that's why, as part of the ChamCham community, we co-organised the first on-line speed business meeting to help our members network with each other and make connections. And there are some more exciting events coming up in the wider business community, including the Slovak Matchmaking Fair 2021 ONLINE in May and BCC Annual Global Conference in June.

On behalf of the team at Britcham and the Board of Directors, we thank you all for your continued support and we wish you a Happy Easter!

Take care and kind regards,
Hajni
