On November 3, 2022, the second round of the discussion entitled Teaching Towards Tomorrow took place in the premises of , our member: this time focused on the future skills. The speakers brought various views on the topic:
  • Jamyes Regualos, Director of EISB, led the discussion focusing mainly on the perspective of the school. He presented the activities through which EISB prepares its students for the ever-changing world of work.
  • Katarína Nováková, Regional Business Development Manager,  identified soft and hard skills that define the future needs of employers and the types of trainings that employers most often provide to their employees in Slovakia.
  • Daniela Schweizer, Recruitment HR Manager, reported on practical experiences and ways in which they upskill their employees right at their plant, via JLR Training Academy.
  • Tatiana Hargašová, Director,  defined the key skills of the 21st century and drew attention to the question if the Slovak companies are ready not only to demand these skills, but also to ensure their development through online or in person training.
  • Irene Mandl, analyzed the skills and professions that are currently facing shortage within the EU labor market, and reminded how other factors such as demographic changes, globalization, digitization, and climate change may affect the labour market.

How was it in the annual Directors Council of ZAP?
image
As we have already shared with you, Britcham has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Slovak Automotive Association this summer. The key reason was to explore new business opportunities as well as establish new networking possibilities for our members in the future – and given impact of the automotive industry on the economy it definitely makes sense – just have a look on the key driver of Slovak export to UK in 2022.

ZAP (Slovak Automotive Association) hosted CEOs of car makers and key suppliers in Elesko restaurant near Modra. It was interesting to hear during the opening speeches where are pain points of automotive but also where ZAP team has succeeded. Without doubts, Kurzarbeit law is perceived as the biggest one. Still open challenge is for example waste and packaging legislation. Both – people and environment related topics will be in Britcham focus in 2023 too. We will meet ZAP representatives after Christmas in order to define further cooperation opportunities. If you are interested to join this discussion, please be so kind and send email to .

The obligation to label products with the UKCA mark extended by 2 years
image
As part of new measures to support trade and business development, the UK has extended the deadline for UKCA labelling of products destined for the UK market to become mandatory.

The new UKCA marking will become mandatory from 2025, which means that the bridging period, when the current CE marking of products and the new UKCA marking will be valid, will last for the next 2 years.

The CE marking will therefore be recognized as valid until the end of December 2024.
