Dear Reader,

Slovakia is in a lockdown again. I know that it is not a welcome development and we must hope that the lockdown is indeed only two weeks. We have shared the latest rules and both legislations regulating new measures for employers. Feel free to reach out if you need any support or advice and Diana and I will do our best to help.

Earlier this month the UK hosted the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 that brought together world leaders to commit to urgent global climate action. COP26 concluded with every Party at COP26 - representing almost 200 countries - agreeing the Glasgow Climate Pact. This global agreement will accelerate action on climate this decade. We have to act now if we are to avoid climate disaster by limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees.

The role of business is key, and there are many opportunities in moving to a more sustainable way of working. That is why our Chamber is passionate about being at the forefront of moving towards clean growth by sharing knowledge and best practice on how to achieve net zero.

With our member Smarthead we held a webinar "How sustainability benefits a business" on 25 November, explaining how they can manage your sustainability data effectively and transform it into engaging content for your stakeholders to increase customer retention and achieve higher employee satisfaction. The webinar was recorded, and you can see it on the Chamber YouTube channel here.

Businesses are leading the change in climate action and I believe that all business can grow in a sustainable way. They influence what we eat and wear, or how we travel (when we are not in a lockdown). They’re at the forefront of marketing the benefits of sustainable living. The cost of inaction for business is for the first time higher than the cost of action. Those that resist the inevitable will be left behind.

Finally, if your business is trading with the UK, there are some important changes coming in January. The British Chambers of Commerce in the UK in partnership with Chamber Customs will host a three part online webinar series “Brexit: One Year On” in December, reviewing and analysing the last twelve months of the UK establishing a new relationship with the European Union and explaining the forthcoming changes which will come into effect in January 2022.

Take care and stay safe,
Hajni
